Where is Obama's transparency?

Published Tuesday, November 3, 2009

Transparency was one of President Obama’s key points before being elected and even in his first days in office. The American people would know what the administration would be planning and have a voice in the evolvement of policy and key bills. Has this happened? You decide.

Let’s target health care, the overriding question and the national debate as to what’s in the various bills presented and voted on in the Congress to date and what’s in the “new” bills being formulated behind closed doors by only Democrat senators and representatives.

Does anyone know what is in these bills? When the original bills were presented, which were 1,000 pages or more, the Democrat representatives said they would vote on the bills even without reading them or understanding what was in them, let alone letting the American people know what was in them.

So, a few people did read the bills, and the word got out to the American people that there would be committees set up by the government to provide end of life policies for all elderly Americans who had health problems, and these committees would provide euthanizing services for the unfortunate aged.

Well, this is just grand for the government. The could knock off the elderly without their extended medical costs over a period of year, saving billions of dollars for Medicare. And, oh yes, it would also save billions of Social Security payments to the elderly.

This is such a good idea that the new health bill, if enacted, could declare that anyone who has retired and been given his Social Security benefits could be put onto the government’s Euthanize List and be visited by the Government Death Committee right off the bat.

When this word got out, old folks naturally got mad and our Senators and Representatives, at least some of them, heard about their ire in town hall meetings across the country. Now those provisions have been denied by the Democrats and we are told they will not be in the “new” bills. So what are in the new bills?

No one knows. The Democrats are deciding what they will have in the “new” bills behind closed doors and no one will know because the bills haven’t been written yet. But when the bills are written, they, too, will be over 1,000 pages and none of the Democrat Senators and Representatives will have read the bills, but they will vote on them anyway because President Obama wants it passed by Thanksgiving!

They will be spending you money and mine, actually our children’s money too.

You will see that the final bills will be theoretically non-deficit for the first year. But every auditing agency of the government and private agencies will state that the actual deficits over the next 10 years will be huge, into the trillions of dollars.

This added to the more than $100 trillion now owed by the government or the $389,000 presently owed by every citizen of America should maybe make us all pause to consider what is actually happening in Washington with our Democratic administration.

Where is the promised transparency? Why aren’t we being invited to participate in the evolvement of this important legislation as well as the others, such as the global warming that doesn’t exist but which will cost everyone large expensive fuel bills, enlarge the federal deficit some more, create rampant unemployment and subject our laws to those of the United Nations if the Copenhagen Agreement is signed by our President.

Why are we not invited to that table as well?

Well, why should we worry about all that? Let our children worry about that, or our grandchildren.

After all, our government is trashing the dollar now so it can pay back the trillions in worthless dollars in just a few years. This is the ultimate plan.

And with the trashing of the dollar, what will you do, the American citizen with fixed Social Security and pension plans and savings.

You will lose all of it to hyper-inflation, the real government plan. At that point, will you not want to have the government death committee call on you to proved their “services?”

Fonzarosa you just showed that there is such thing as a Democrat by calling names because you do not want the truth heard.

Fonzarosa, if you "know" (or is it "no's") so much, what is in the health care plan that nobody "knows"?
You must be one of those spelling bee queens with an A in Economics, right? Like most Dem's intelligence and integrity elude you. Please don't speak unless you know, "no".

Obama's lack of transparency is no more remarkable than GW's was. Thomas Jefferson predicted this would happen if the country ever allowed a central bank to issue and control its currency.

The bank can produce any amount of money the people and their government ask for, because the bank creates it out of thin air and charges the people interest on it. It then subtracts a healthy fee for annual operations and turns the rest of the annual interest over to the Treasury Department. The bank and the government work together to impose a hidden tax on the people.

When a government moves too much toward a pure democracy the people, as Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington knew and explained, and as verified by 5000 years of history, the people vote more and more benefits for themselves which the government obtains for them at interest.

The benefit of this arrangement to the government is that office holders can appear to be benevolent gift givers while not raising taxes, though there is in fact the hidden inflation tax, set at 3% annual on each and every transaction that occurs by Federal Reserve Policy. This interest payment is the third largest line item in the federal budget.

The benefit to the bank is that the bank is owned by member banks who are owned by people who are on the inside in regard to knowledge of coming Fed decisions and thus can profit enormously from the hidden confiscation of the people's wealth.

The Federal Reserve says that the reason Fed policy sometimes fails is not because it is bad policy working against the wishes of the marketplace, but because the people do not do as the Fed wishes. That is, when the Fed wishes for the people to spend more money and signals this by lowering interest rates the people sometimes, as now, do not respond, being unsure of the future. So what the Fed wishes is that the government will make the people spend money, which is also what we see now in the government stimulus programs in which the people are collectively forced to spend money by executive decision, increasing their overall debt level while individually they are too wise to spend in times of uncertainty.

Both political parties support this bank/government scheme because members of both parties move back and forth between bank and government and hold stock in the member banks and the favored debtors of the member banks.

Neither Bush nor Obama practiced or practice transparency because transparency would make this financial arrangement too visible to thinking people and the people would call for an end to the bank, as they have done three times previously in America's history.

Fonzarosa, my father taught me many years ago about how Democrats use "character assasination" to drive their political policies. I've not seen him proved wrong yet.

This is what is exactly wrong with politics. A person cannot make a statement of his beliefs without being called stupid names by the other side. It is childish!

We participate through the people we elect to represent us. Sometimes our views are in the majority and sometimes they are not. Don't confuse not getting what you want with not participating in a democracy. Early in the process, the President accepted 168 amendments to the healthcare bill from Republicans. Yet, when the vote was taken, not one crossed the line and voted for the bill. This action was veiwed as disingenuous at best and resulted in the President moving forward with the supporters he had.

If the majority of Americans wanted Obama to lead our country, does the majority STILL BELIEVE he is leading us successfully into the future? Do they look over this 'lack of transparancy' as OK, just because he's Obama? Do they overlook the warning signs that blink over his head as the words roll off his lips? Obviously...and that's scary.

Most Blacks will put down a Repubilican and vote Democrat. Why I'll never know......They must not know who fought to give them the vote. Do you know Blacks had the right to vote before white women could vote???? Study up on your history people and find out for yourself that the Republicans are not your enemy. They're the best friends you have. I'm not a Republican but I'm definetly not Democrat. I vote American.

If you didn't know obama was a friend to the devil before you voted for him, you have to know it now. He wants to kill your grandma, grandpa and/or your aged parents and all your unborn grandchildren. How about that for the president of free America???????

OGD, did your father happen to mention that republicans rely heavily on character assassination?

Posted by 2008 (anonymous) on November 3, 2009 at 12:27 p.m. (Suggest removal)

Mr. Peabody: Your letter insinuates that the previous Administration was transparent and we are now suffering because the transparency has disappeared over the last 10 months. There isn’t even transparency in Natchez politics, and that is also reality.

That said, I do have to say that the transparency of the Republican Party is at an all time high. Since the early Spring we have had non-stop Teabagger fear and mongering, we have had 9/12’s demonstrate at the call of Glenn Beck (who failed to show for his own Washington Rally) their ignorance of their elected officials and issues, Glenn sees a conspiracy under every pebble , we have Rush instigating the radio listeners with his buffoonery, we have Sara (can’t finish one term as Gov.) Palin out for all the money she can make by writing a book, and assisting in the demise of the Republican party, you have grassroots organizations that are not grass roots but sponsored by Army Archer, you have both Dem and Republican elected officials on the take from Pharmaceutical companies, Insurance companies and Medical companies, you have Birthers who follow Orly Taiz (fined $20,000 from a judge who threw out her law suit and a second judge who also dismissed her second lawsuit as not worthy) and her followers who are just as ridiculous as she is, you have Sen.Grassly and company that never had any intention of working with the Democrats to get a Health Reform passed, you have idiots carrying guns around at public meetings like they are wannabe John Wayne’s, you have people disrupting Town Halls showing their stupidity and lack of civility by purposely setting out with written directions on how to disrupt the meetings, you have the GOP Holding Up Unemployment Extension, as nearly 200,000 lose their benefits, you have Boehner's Health Care Bill At Odds With Pre-Existing GOP Positions, you have Vitter Confronted By Rape Victim Over Franken Amendment Vote which is shameful on the part of Republicans that voted against it, you have Texas Republicans Who Opposed Stimulus Raking In Far More Funds Than Dems..

Yes, the right wing is in a fight with the extreme right wing of the Republican Party and they are at definite odds with each other, and it’s pulling the party apart with all the transparency of cellophane. Only 32 percent of respondents called themselves Republicans in a recent AP-GfK survey compared with 43 percent who called themselves Democrats. Yes Mr. Peabody how is the transparency working for you now?

Destiny, You never fail to show your true colors!

Destiny, the parties for both the republicans and democrats are different than they were during the 1800's. So in short you are wrong.

southernwoman, concerning --> "did your father happen to mention that republicans rely heavily on character assassination".

I'm sorry, but he neglected to tell me that. Although I'm sure it occurs occasionally. But I said it as it was told to me. And he was a man who voted Democrat and Republican and also had to live with death threats against his life when he stood up for the civil rights of minorities back in the 60's. And we only have to look over our shoulders at the astroturf comments to see it in recent memory. More sinister uses of it would be the attacks on Sarah Palin and her children. I can almost always appreciate the back and forth of simple political differences. Its the personal attacks that I can't stomach.

OK Andrew, when you got on that speel about euthansia you demonstrated you don't know what you are writing about.

It's one thing Andrew if you just get it wrong. But it is the original misinformation campaign about this euthanasia thing that should interest you. It was perpetrated by people who know how you think and feel perfectly OK about confusing you to get their way. You should look up the poop on this euthansia flap and see if you are being too easily confused about any other political points.

Would you call it character assassination to lie about the contents of a bill to make lawmakers look more evil than they actually were guilty of being? I think that is exactly what it was.

As far as other comments in this thread, the tired old argument that Democrats use character assasination is very misleading. At least when the Democrats -- also politicians who must use a certain amount of oversimplification to get things across to America -- use whatever against their opponents it tends to be more TRUE -- Instead of the back door tricks like George Bush et al used on McCain about his BLACK LOVE CHILD.

Misinformation is how a minority party gets in power otherwise they would be a majority party.

The reason it looks like Republicans fall to character assassination so frequently is that they crawl so far out on that MORAL HIGH HORSE that they can't help but fall off from anything from playing footsy with gay sex in the men's room to supporting the likes of ENRON's corruption then pretending they were just for free enterprise.

Sarah Palin even set herself up for scrutiny insinuating that God was her guide in political matters. She should not have made that claim as it was a bit dishonest (everybody approaches as divine and moral a path as they can muster at any given moment) -- so people shot her down. Part of Sarah's message was that somehow she was good enough to align with the divine but that others somehow are lacking there. She should have done like so many politicians and held a more humble stance in the eyes of God and Man.

It is one of the truths of politics that there is something inherently dishonest about folks who try to use God and the Bible to advance politics in a country where free religion is a constitutional guarantee.

God doesn't need Republican candidates or their supporters. Those two groups NEED GOD to get what they want, and although they know very certainly what they want, they know God significantly less well. That is true for all people. THAT is the gospel, and you will never see the Almighty stumping for these candidates -- they claim his blessings all on their own.

Even the fact that Democrats are less likely to throw the Divine around as if they had a franchise speaks to their moral integrity -- compared to the other side at least. We all know that politicians -- too often and on both sides -- checked their moral integrity at the door to become politicians.

The mid-term elections will be very telling. Obama and many Democratic leaders approval ratings have tanked and will continue to do so. I guess we Republicans can say we told you so but unfortunately, it won't change a thing.

Posted by southernwoman (anonymous) on November 3, 2009 at 4:01 p.m. (Suggest removal)

OGD, you're sure it (character assassination of democrats by republicans) occurs occasionally? Yes, just as the night occasionally follows day.

Yeahuhuh, concerning --> " We all know that politicians -- too often and on both sides -- checked their moral integrity at the door to become politicians."

Ya see, there's always some areas we can agree on.

For what its worth, I gave up on Romney and Thompson for what I perceived as character attacks coming from them. But then, I always hold out hope for redemption also.

The United States of America----the greatest nation to ever exist in the history of the world.

A Democratic Republic...where every man is equal and deserving of the same rights and treatment.

Democracy--we vote for representatives who will speak for the majority that elected him...the majority RULES!

Republic -- Our elected representative goes to Washington to speak for the majority who democratically elected them.

Easy, huh?

Somewhere it got all messed up...at some point in time our elected representatives decided the people who elected them were stupid; that we needed to be told what to do, when to do it, and how......they started passing laws to limit our rights and increase their power. Greed became king, and money their God.

Andy, you seem so worried about how the government's going to spend your tax dollars, but why all the concern, all of a sudden? For the past 60 years our government has been in collusion, in one form or another, with entities that seek to control our future.

We rock and rolled through the '50s while our government and General Foods set up puppet governments all over Central and South America. In the '60s, we were in an uproar over the Vietnam War, when in reality, all the turmoil and rage in the streets only suited to cover up the real nastiness of the political greed machine.

The rest of the '70s it was more sex, drugs and rock and roll while our presidents fell in disgrace, and planned chaos around the world to the extent of dethroning one of our puppets in Iran and replacing him with our enemy today.

More greed in the '80s as our congressmen sold themselves to the highest bidder, our president commited treason by allowing Noriega's drugs to be flown into our country in return for his selling our guns to the killers in Nicaragua, and passing the money to the Islamics to keep them from attacking the Jews in Isreal. Wall St was selling phoney-baloney, killing the Savings and Loan companies, and our government was growing so large, so fast no one could keep an eye on it...fraud was everywhere.

So, lets clean things up with a good war...this time we crush Iraq in what, a week? But we don't finish the job, and that comes back to bite us in the behind....and the '90s begin. Follow that up with higher taxes, "Read My Lips", the invention of 'government backed' loan companies, entitlements, Rush Limbaugh's witch hunt for the pres's zipper, and we're all set for GWBush and his atrocities, lies, and monarchy while our legislators got fat, Wall St got fat, the banks got fat, the rich got fat, and the rest of us bought the dream & dwindled away to nothing...where we are today.

What's transparent to me is your is your hatred because a black man is president...why don't you just say so, and quit beating around the bush like all the other rednecks who suddenly want their country back.

Back from Whom? Obama doesn't have it, the corporations own us.

The more I think about this letter the angrier I get. Why, because the letter is full of misinformation and lies that were propagated by the right wing (months ago) to get Senior’s to believe in Death Panels and a End of Life “government’s Euthanize List”. These allegations have long been proven false. This is pure propaganda, misleading and untrue.

The Natchez Democrat must think we are all a bunch morons, where is the journalistic integrity of this paper?

Journalistic integrity and newspapers don't mix, besides when a paper can't even run a spell check before going to print why would they worry about the larger issues?

Obama promised transparency. He promised to post all pending legislation online 72 hours (minimum) before scheduled votes so that the American public would have an opportunity to be fully informed. He's failed to do that, and failed miserably.
